17 buildings and 91 floors of RTLS success
Issue #180 | Feb. 20, 2009 | by Jason Howe
When we first spoke with the Jackson Health System in Miami, it was clear they required vast network coverage that would make this the largest RTLS system in the healthcare field.
Their goal was to assure equipment loss was at a minimum, while utilization of equipment they own was maximized. This is precisely the right start of the RTLS value curve.

Permanent RTLS Exhibition Hall

ExCel London, an exhibition and conference center on the waterfront ”in the heart of London’s Royal docks,” became the world’s first truly smart event space. In a partnership between Ubisense and Fish Software, ExCel London decided to permanently install their real-time measurement system.
The Fish RTLS system utilizes the Ubisense ultra wide band (UWB) RFID technology to determine the precise location of every visitor to an event with an accuracy of 6 inches, every second. The Fish system then leverages that location intelligence to provide a unique, personalized experience for each visitor as well as detailed measurement and analysis for organizers and exhibitors. This system calculates visitor traffic flows, dwell time, staff engagements etc which can all be correlated against visitor demographic data in real-time. Visitors benefit from a personalized show experience and enhanced interactivity as they request information to be delivered to them from their real-time location, a world first.
Kevin Murphy, CEO ExCel London says, “This technology will revolutionise the industry and will enable us to work more closely with our clients to help them and their customers consistently deliver successful results and ultimately events. Permanent installation will allow all events, no matter what their size, to benefit.”
